The Great Lakes Project

Over a two-year period, ICLEI Canada engaged 27 Ontario communities in two projects aimed at building capacity on resilience planning and implementation.

Through Train-the-Trainer, ICLEI Canada engaged 16 municipalities in the early stages of adaptation planning to build a team of diverse community stakeholders. Municipal representatives were then trained to facilitate localized workshops that assessed climate change vulnerability and risks to natural, social, economic, and built systems. Take a look at the results from the Project, here

Through Collaborative Implementation Groups, ICLEI Canada brought together 12 municipalities working on implementing adaptation actions. Through the program, the municipalities learned how to design implementation plans, create communication strategies, and establish indicators. Adaptation actions implemented through this project include low impact developments, a resilient home pilot, local improvement charges, and community engagement tools.
