Regular registration extended until Thursday, August 24, 2023

Most Canadian cities and towns were not built with a vision of a net zero, resilient, and sustainable future. So what does the transition to resilient, equitable, and livable communities look like? How can we embrace diversity and inclusion in the process? And, ultimately, how can we accelerate implementation to keep pace with challenges municipalities face? Join us and 300+ delegates September 25 to 27 to explore how to build resilient, equitable, and livable communities through the lens of “Intention to Implementation”.

  • Meet experts, leaders, and practitioners from across Canada
  • Participate in a variety of engaging sessions and study tours
  • Discover resources, leading edge practices, and more

Join for a single day or the full three day Forum! Registration includes sessions meals and networking events.

New sessions added to the program

Climate x Placemaking: Exploring the relationship between placemaking and climate action

Placemaking activities help us feel that we belong to a place, and that the place belongs to us too. This strengthens social ties and is essential to co-building community resilience in crises. In this session, join placemakers and municipal staff from across the country as we explore the relationship — and possibilities — of linking placemaking and climate action.

Using future climate data to support adaptation implementation

Climate projections — or future climate data — can inform our understanding of climate impacts and help shape our adaptation planning. Building on the wealth of information on ClimateData.ca, this hands-on session will unpack future climate data and community priorities. Learn how to access and use future extreme heat data, and where to find future technical design data for buildings and infrastructure.

Poster session: Research insights towards a net-zero and resilient future

A tremendous amount of research is being conducted to help communities reach net-zero targets and resilience goals. In this poster session, researchers will share research findings and discuss their relevance for cities. The posters will be set up in the Forum’s networking area to allow delegates to read the posters, meet the researchers, and have conversations while socializing.

Innovative action towards low-carbon resilience

Where mitigation and adaptation were once seen as separate and sometimes competing strategies, this session showcases their evolving synergy: the creation of low-carbon resilient communities. Delve into a collaborative learning experience as adaptation and mitigation experts converge to explore the integral role of local governments in combating climate change.

This year’s LCF is hosted by the City of Mississauga in partnership with ICLEI Canada and the Canadian Urban Institute, and is sponsored by Co-operators. Would you like to get involved and support the Forum? Learn how you can become a sponsor.
