The Case for Municipal Action toward Building Energy Performance

With ongoing growth in the building sector, ensuring that new buildings are sustainable and energy-efficient presents a key opportunity—not only to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also to enhance long-term community resilience, lower energy costs, and support healthier communities. Join us for the first Building to Net-Zero (BNZ) Community of Practice session to explore why municipal leadership in building energy performance is essential and discover practical strategies to help articulate co-benefits in order to drive local support and implementation. Participants will hear from subject matter experts and practitioners from Efficiency Canada, Community Energy Association, and the Town of Bridgewater, who will share their insights and experiences.

Towards Inclusive Adaptation: Tools and success stories for local governments

Equity and engagement are crucial to effective adaptation projects. Local governments and their partners need actionable strategies and tools to help them overcome barriers and consider equity in various adaptation projects–from policies to programs and capital investments. Whether you are seeking to initiate change or enhance existing practices, this workshop offers invaluable insights and practical solutions to foster inclusive and resilient adaptation efforts in your community.

The workshop will be delivered in English, with a French version taking place on Friday, February 21.

This initiative is offered through the Green Municipal Fund. Delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, GMF manages approximately $2.4B in programs funded by the Government of Canada.

Join us in Halifax, NS October 6-8 for the 2025 Livable Cities Forum (LCF). LCF is Canada’s preeminent event for municipal leaders and practitioners who want to create livable cities. It provides a space for delegates to learn from colleagues and experts, share their knowledge and experiences, and participate in workshops and panels showcasing local innovation related to climate action and resilience. The Forum is widely known for its high-calibre practical sessions, diverse speakers, and meaningful networking opportunities.
