Canada’s National Climate Adaptation Conference Returns in 2026
Adaptation Canada 2026 will convene over 1,000 leaders from across sectors and regions, September 22–24, 2026.
Canada’s national climate adaptation conference will take place in Toronto next fall, from September 22 to 24, 2026. Building on the momentum of previous editions, Adaptation Canada 2026 will bring together over 1,000 participants from diverse sectors and communities to drive Canada’s climate resilience efforts forward.
“Canada’s National Adaptation Strategy is essential for achieving climate resilience, enabling us to protect people, nature, infrastructure, and the economy from the impacts of climate change. Conferences like Adaptation Canada are key to turning that vision into reality,” says the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of Environment and Climate Change. “Extreme weather—including forest fires, flooding and droughts—are impacting our communities, our livelihoods and our economy. Working together to improve our climate resilience is a cost effective and affordable way to safeguard our future. It helps prevent greater costs down the road, while protecting Canadians and the place they call home today.”
The conference, aimed at industry professionals, government staff, researchers, and community organizations, is being delivered by ICLEI Canada in 2026, with support from the Government of Canada and a network of partners. Now in its third edition, Adaptation Canada 2026 will be more expansive in its reach than ever.
“As climate impacts intensify across Canada, the need for collaborative solutions across sectors has never been greater,” explains Ewa Jackson, Managing Director at ICLEI Canada. “The conversations we have today will shape our future, and Adaptation Canada 2026 provides a platform for the kinds of conversations and partnerships we need for Canadians to have a prosperous future.”
A Platform for Urgent, Collaborative Solutions
Across Canada, climate impacts are increasing. People in communities, sectors, and organizations are creating solutions that strengthen resilience at the local, regional, and national levels. Adaptation Canada 2026 builds on this momentum and provides a whole-of-society approach to guide us into the future.
“The necessary and urgent effort to build climate resilience in our communities isn’t something any one sector can do alone,” explains Chad Park, VP Sustainability & Citizenship at Co-operators. “This is co-operative, whole of society work that will require governments, businesses, communities, and individuals to join together and invest in our communities.”
Recognizing that Canada’s biggest crises—economy, health, and housing—are deeply connected to climate change, Adaptation Canada provides a platform to break down silos, build meaningful connections, and inform long-term strategies to address some of Canada’s biggest challenges.
Bringing Together Diverse Perspectives
The conference will feature engaging panels, interactive workshops, immersive sessions, and curated networking opportunities. Through these, attendees will explore themes grounded in real-world action, such as:
- Living with risk and how climate change is reshaping Canada;
- How Indigenous leadership, community-driven solutions, and public-private partnerships can unlock new opportunities;
- Building climate-ready communities through housing, infrastructure, food systems, and low-carbon resilience;
- Making adaptation just and inclusive;
- Advancing adaptation through stronger systems and smarter policies; and,
- Different voices and perspectives, including youth, artists, educators, the tech sector, and many more.
These themes highlight the diversity of perspectives guiding adaptation across Canada.
“Adaptation Canada 2026 is an essential platform to not just include, but center Indigenous knowledge and leadership,” explains Hetxw’ms Gyetxw, also known as Brett D. Huson, President & CEO of Aluu’taa. “True climate resilience is rooted in the interconnected, place-based understandings of our relationship with the land and water, and it’s imperative that these perspectives guide our collective efforts with the future of the next seven generations in mind, guided by the knowledge of the seven generations before.”
Planning is being undertaken through the collaborative efforts of an Advisory Group with over 24 representatives from various sectors and regions of the country.
