Commitments and Action
A REVIEW OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES RELATED TO CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION FROM ACROSS BRITISH COLUMBIACommitments and Action: A Review of Local Government Initiatives Related to Climate Change Adaptation from Across British Columbia
Developing stand-alone adaptation plans or embedding adaptation commitments into other strategic planning documents is one of the primary ways local governments can improve their adaptive capacity. This planning, followed by the implementation of adaptive actions and initiatives, forms the basis of local action on preparing for the impacts of climate change. In order to gain insight into the status of adaptation planning and implementation in the Province of British Columbia, ICLEI Canada conducted in-depth desktop research of local government websites and planning documents and conducted targeted interviews. The objective of this project was to create a catalogue that allows for the identification of adaptation trends across local governments of different types, population sizes, and locations.
