ADAPTATION CHANGEMAKERS

Climate Change Adaptation Changemakers Project

The Adaptation Changemakers project is training and building agents of change for climate adaptation and resilience across Canada. This is a multi-year training project engaging a wide variety of stakeholders in British Columbia, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador.  With technical guidance from ICLEI staff and Regional Experts, participating municipalities are initiating and advancing their adaptation efforts. We are engaging local stakeholders, identifying impacts, assessing vulnerabilities and risks, and developing implementation-ready local action plan.

Participating municipalities include:

  • Prince George, BC
  • Qualicum Beach, BC
  • Ucluelet, BC
  • Windsor, ON
  • Peterborough, ON
  • Caledon, ON
  • Conception Bay South, NL
  • Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, NL

The project includes three nation wide Climate Symposia to help showcase the efforts and progress of the communities with a wider British Columbia audience. The first of these national workshops was held in St. John’s in November 2018, the second national workshop was held in Windsor in April 2019.

Adaptation Changemakers is funded through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Climate Adaptation Partner Grants available through FCMs Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP). MCIP, delivered by FCM and funded by the Government of Canada, is a five-year, $75-million program designed to support and encourage municipalities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change.
